"D4D on the Road" is a one-day training program that will be held at 12 Periclean college and university campuses around the country during the 2009/2010 academic year. The workshop at Allegheny College will be held from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm on Friday, November 6. The training program is designed to help novice and seasoned organizers develop effective strategies to build and gain power.
The workshops will be led by facilitators from Midwest Academy. Midwest Academy is a national training institute based in Chicago, IL committed to advancing the struggle for social, economic, and racial justice. From local neighborhood groups to statewide and national organizations, Midwest Academy has trained over 25,000 grassroots activists from hundreds of organizations and coalitions including Amnesty International. National Council of La Raza and the NAACP. Midwest Academy teaches an organizing philosophy, methods, and skills that enable ordinary people to actively participate in the democratic process.
The workshop at Allegheny College is sponsored by Project Pericles and the Spencer Foundation and will be co-hosted by a mixture of student groups, student government and academic departments from Allegheny College.

Project Pericles is a non-profit organization that requires and helps implement formal commitments from member colleges and universities to include education for social responsibility and participatory citizenship as an essential part of their educational programs, in the classroom, on the campus, and in the community. Currently, 22 diverse colleges and universities participate in Project Pericles. Debating for Democracy (D4D) is a unique co-curricular program that encourages student research on issues of current social concern, the development of thoughtful opinions, and the personal and collective advocacy of these opinions in the forums of democracy. The D4D format invites collaborative efforts of students, faculty and community.
